Human eye and camera lenses both focus an inverted image onto a light-sensitive surface. A camera focuses this image onto film or a sensor chip. Your eyes focus it on the retina on the inside of your eyeball. But what does resolution mean for the human eye? Well, in order to create a screen, so to speak, with a picture so sharp and clear that the individual pixels can't be distinguished, you would have to place 576 million pixels into an area that is the size of your field of view. You only see high resolution in a very small area in the center of your vision – the fovea. Hence, although the eye does indeed have higher resolution than a digital camera, it's more comparable to a detective, collecting clues from your surrounding environment.
